81 Hozo-in 宝蔵院(ほうぞういん)

In the year 800, at the age of 27, Kobodaishi embarked on a pilgrimage around the Izu
Peninsula.IMG_1074Near the present day location of Hozo-in, as he was reading and reciting ancient sutras, from the woods it is said that he saw six rays of light shining on the hermitage in which he was in.IMG_1512When he went outside to further explore he saw six rays of light which shone brightly on six large trees.IMG_1510He saw this as a revelation of the salvation of the suffering of all living things the six lower worlds. He gave it the name 金剛法蔵密院.IMG_1082In the year 830, Emperor Junna came to the site and repaired the hermitage, building more temple buildings restoring it as a place for religious retreat.IMG_1513IMG_1517 IMG_1518IMG_1520 IMG_1523
