Denomination: Soto (曹洞宗)

Location: Minami Izu-cho, Kamo District (賀茂郡南伊豆町)
Sources vary however it is commonly believed that this temple was founded in 1248 during the Kamakura Period as part of the Shingon denomination. It was later converted to the Soto denomination in the latter part of the Muromachi Period.
At the entrance to the temple grounds to the left of the approach is a shrine to Sugawara no Michizane 菅原道真, who is revered as the god of learning. Also near the approach are prayer slips from the Shikoku and Izu Pilgrimages left and presented to the temple or a deity as a sacred offering.
