Main Image: Jizo Bosatsu
Location: Yokogawa District, Shimoda
In 1046, while on a pilgrimage of noted sacred mountains a group of Shingon
denomination monks came across the area with the cooperation of the local
people built a main hall, and enshrined a Jizo-son as its main image.
The shrine located behind the temple served as a guardian of the temple and the villagers. Later in the temple’s history, it’s name and denomination changed twice and is now called Taibaiji, part of the Soto denomination.
