Founded at the time when Nawaji gold mine was still in operation sometime between 1596 and 1615, Joanji was moved from its nearby original location.

A very old palanquin (a large box carried on one or two horizontal poles by two or more bearers used for transporting a person) is kept inside the main hall as one of its treasures.
